It doesn’t matter how fucked up you are. You are here and you are alive. The power to be better, stronger, healthier and happier resides within us. We CAN move beyond all of the pain, hurt, worry, anxiety, stagnation and fear in our lives.  This is where native flower essences come in.

Healing your self is hard work and it takes effort, determination and commitment.  I know. There are times I wanted to give up. Times it all seemed too hard and too painful.

There are times I lost my mind. Quite a few times actually. Sometimes it was gone for a while. (There are essences for that too. We’ll get to those another time!)

My healing journey was all over the place. Sometimes I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere at all, but I had to keep going, because there was so much further to go.  I had to remind my self it was progress, not perfection I was striving for.

Healing takes as long as it takes. You can’t cut corners and there are no short cuts. In saying that, there are many things that will speed up your healing and recovery.  Flower Essence Therapy, proper nutrition, herbal medicine, exercises, spending time in nature, journaling, getting enough quality sleep, ridding fuckwits from your life, and making the choice to heal yourself and your life are just a few. (I’ll go into these individually in future posts down the line.)  Don’t compare yourself to others.  You have to give yourself the time to you need to heal and that is different for every individual.

Healing is a conscious choice. Our bodies are amazing, and even if we don’t make that choice, a certain amount of healing will happen anyway, we are programmed to self-heal at a cellular level, but don’t you want to be the best you can be? Don’t you want to heal every little bit of you? Don’t you want to support your mind and body and spirit on its quest for total wholeness, healing, renewal, happiness and harmony?  You totally can!  Imagine if you put as much effort into looking after yourself as you do everyone else.  How awesome would you be then?

Transforming our attitudes is often necessary. I looked at my healing journey as an exciting adventure instead of some pain in the arse thing better to be avoided and it made all the difference. Sure sometimes it sucked and I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, but that’s where faith comes in…and a good night’s sleep!  Also, start believing you deserve it.  You are worthy of healing.  Remind yourself there is no one more important than you in your life. (That’s a hard one I know!) There is a reason the flight attendants tell you to put on your own oxygen mask before dealing with others.  If you take care of yourself first you are in a better position to take care of others.

Learn to listen to your body, your energy levels and your emotions. Get to know your body. Get to know how it responds to certain foods, medications, therapies, situations, even people. This is one of the things that takes time. For me I found journaling really valuable for understanding what and how I was affected by all of the above.

Ask for help. This one was always hard for me. I spent a long time not wanting to be a burden or drag other people into my crap. Sometimes we need help with our crap. That’s all there is to it. If you feel you need help, ASK!  If the first person you ask can’t help, ask someone else.

However, don’t get caught up in others opinions of what you should be doing. Fuck them all! You are in charge of you and your body.

By all means, listen to the health professionals you are working with, but if what they are saying doesn’t ring true for you in your heart of hearts, you don’t have to do it. I had a few run ins with one of my plastic surgeons because he wanted to perform an operation I wasn’t comfortable with, and refused to listen to my concerns, poo pooing me as an idiot with no clue. So I said “NO” “Thank you for all of the work you have done, but HELL NO to that!” I took my power back and refused to be told I had to have this experimental, no guarantee it would work surgery, and I didn’t. I have no regrets.   I knew without a shadow of a doubt what was right for me and what wasn’t and refused to let myself get bullied, even by a respected surgeon. Doctors aren’t gods. If your intuition is screaming something is wrong for you, trust it. Get a second opinion. Talk to someone you trust about it. You are allowed to make decisions about your welfare.

There is an amazing First Light Flower Essence called Black Mamaku that I work with. It is number 85, the first of the Healer’s Collection, and it opens us up to the healing journey and helps us connect with our own inner healer. It helps us to take responsibility for our own healing and get unstuck from our own pain so we can move forward. Black Mamaku is there for us when we feel lost and confused, alone and overwhelmed by the magnitude of the healing journey ahead of us. It moves us into the timeless space of the healer where all healing is possible.  It is for when you hear the call to heal.  It is for when you know there must be something more to life but you’re not sure what steps you need to take to find out.

The information on #85 Black Mamaku is sourced from my notes of the Medicine Woman Retreats at Tauhara led by Franchelle Ofsoske-Wyber, 2008, 2011 and 2012,  and the First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand website.
